He breathed on them, and said to them: \u2018Receive the Holy Spirit. If you forgive the sins of any, they are forgiven; if you retain the sins of any, they are retained.<\/div><\/div> <\/em> CCC 1485 \/ Jn 20: 19, 22-23<\/p>\n<p>Children are eligible for the sacrament of Confession when they are in the second grade providing they have a baptismal certificate on file in the Faith Formation office and are receiving instruction through St. Genevieve Elementary School, St. Genevieve-St. Maurice Parish Faith Formation or are being instructed at home with the guidance of the Faith Formation office. First Confession is usually in February.<\/p>\n<p>Parents remain the primary catechists of their children and are expected to participate in the sacramental preparation by reinforcing the catechism, attending required meetings and practices, and being committed to their child\u2019s regular attendance at weekly Mass and catechism class.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-4016\" src=\"http:\/\/saintgenevieve.org\/parish\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/confessional-199x300.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"167\" height=\"252\" srcset=\"https:\/\/stgenevieve-stmaurice.org\/parish\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/confessional-199x300.png 199w, https:\/\/stgenevieve-stmaurice.org\/parish\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/confessional.png 250w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 167px) 100vw, 167px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>The Sacrament of Penance and Reconciliation<\/strong> (also known as Confession)<\/p>\n<div class=\"su-quote su-quote-style-default\"><div class=\"su-quote-inner su-u-clearfix su-u-trim\"> <em>It is called the sacrament of conversion because it makes sacramentally present Jesus\u2019 call to conversion, the first step in returning to the Father from whom one has strayed by sin. <\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>It is called the sacrament of Penance, since it consecrates the Christian sinner\u2019s personal and ecclesial step of conversion, penance, and satisfaction.<\/div><\/div> CCC1423 <\/em><\/p>\n<div class=\"su-quote su-quote-style-default\"><div class=\"su-quote-inner su-u-clearfix su-u-trim\"> <em>It is called the sacrament of confession, since the disclosure or confession of sins to a priest is an essential element of this sacrament.
