St. Thomas Aquinas writes, \u201cPiety denotes the reverence which <\/span><span class=\"a_GcMg font-feature-liga-off font-feature-clig-off font-feature-calt-off text-decoration-none text-strikethrough-none\">we give to our faith and to our country. And since God is the Father of all, the worship of God is also called piety\u2026therefore the gift whereby a man, through reverence for God, works good to all, is fittingly called piety.\u201d (Sum., II:II, 68, Art. 4)<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"cvGsUA direction-ltr align-justify para-style-body\"><span class=\"a_GcMg font-feature-liga-off font-feature-clig-off font-feature-calt-off text-decoration-none text-strikethrough-none\">The virtue of piety, which can be understood most easily as giving due reverence to God, should not be confused with \u201cpopular piety,\u201d which refers to external expressions of devotion that are unique to specific places and environments.
