Here is a story: <\/span>\u201cA woman bought a very expensive dress and <\/span>when she went home her husband said to her, \u201cWhen you were <\/span>trying it on why didn\u2019t you say, \u2018Get behind me Satan?\u2019\u201d She said, <\/span>\u201cI did say \u2018Get behind me Satan,\u2019 and when I looked at it from <\/span>behind in the mirror it was just as nice!\u201d<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

There is a battle going on in the lives of each of us, a battle <\/span>going on <\/span>for<\/span>the lives of each of us, a battle between good and <\/span>evil. At the end of that battle in the next life we will either hear <\/span>Jesus say, \u201cyou are mine\u201d or hear Satan say, \u201cyou are mine.\u201d <\/span>Through his cross Jesus has won the battle but it is up to us now <\/span>to accept his grace and live as those redeemed by Jesus. There <\/span>are manifestations of grace and manifestations of evil all around <\/span>us, but we can take the side of Jesus in the battle for our lives by <\/span>overcoming sin and temptation.<\/span><\/p>\n

How do we overcome sin and temptation? <\/span><\/p>\n

There are some things that can really help us to fight this <\/span>battle against evil: regular sacramental life, participation in the <\/span>Holy Eucharist, frequent confession, adoration of the Blessed <\/span>Sacrament, reading Scripture, devotion to our Blessed Mother <\/span>and St. Michael, Works of Mercy. <\/span><\/p>\n

Through his cross Jesus has won the battle but it is up to us <\/span>now to accept his grace and live as those redeemed by Jesus. <\/span>Jesus is asking us to reflect on our lives to see if anything is <\/span>leading us in the wrong direction, and if so to take steps to <\/span>remedy occasions of sin and live in the grace of Jesus so that we <\/span>may hear him say to us at the end, \u201cYou are mine.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Do not be afraid, fight this battle daily, Jesus is on your side, <\/span>the victory is yours! <\/span><\/p>\n

Priesthood Sunday<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

This weekend we celebrate Priesthood Sunday. Please <\/span>remember, recognize, and pray for the priests that God has <\/span>placed or will place on the path of your life. <\/span><\/p>\n

The Office of Priestly Vocations is inviting parishioners to offer a <\/span>spiritual bouquet for their pastors and associate pastors: <\/span>https:\/\/<\/span>detroitpriestlyvocations.com\/priesthood<\/span>–<\/span>sunday\/<\/span><\/a>. Part of that <\/span>bouquet includes an option to share a story about how this priest\u2019s <\/span>ministry has impacted your life. Our hope is to collect and share <\/span>these stories with each priest through Priesthood Sunday. <\/span><\/p>\n

September 29 Feast of the Archangels<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

You are all invited to celebrate with us the feast of the Holy <\/span>Archangels: Michael, Raphael and Gabriel on Wednesday, <\/span>September 29<\/span>th <\/span>at 9 am. May those Messengers of God help us to <\/span>recognize God\u2019s will for us and live according to his call. <\/span><\/p>\n

First Friday and Saturday devotions<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

This week we will honor Jesus\u2019 Most Sacred heart on Friday <\/span>morning celebrating Mass with adoration of the Blessed <\/span>Sacrament until noon. On Saturday there will be 9 am Mass in <\/span>honor of Our Blessed Mother and her Immaculate Heart, with <\/span>Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament and Rosary. Every Saturday <\/span>of October (except the first Saturday!) after 5 pm Mass you\u2019ll have <\/span>a chance to join us for the Rosary. October and May are 2 very <\/span>special months dedicated to the Blessed Mother. May her <\/span>intercession and protection help us to follow her Son Jesus <\/span>always. <\/span><\/p>\n

Young Adults Gathering<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

I can\u2019t describe how grateful I am for the first Young Adults <\/span>meeting on Wednesday, September 15<\/span>th<\/span>! They are the future of <\/span>our church! Please, pray for us that we will be able to help these <\/span>young people to follow Jesus! Read more about that event on <\/span>page 4 of the bulletin!<\/span><\/p>\n

Milestone celebration<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

Last Wednesday, one of our <\/span>parishioners Anthony Michael Young <\/span>celebrated his 99<\/span>th <\/span>birthday. I am <\/span>assuming that Tony is the oldest (I <\/span>shouldn\u2019t say that) the most experienced <\/span>parishioner of St. Genevieve <\/span>\u2013<\/span>St. <\/span>Maurice. We are so happy for the gift of <\/span>his life. We pray for him and wish him <\/span>many more years in good health of his <\/span>spirit and body. Happy Birthday Tony! <\/span><\/p>\n

With Grateful Heart<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

I\u2019d like to thank all of you for your prayers, birthday wishes, <\/span>cards, and gifts that I received on my birthday, also last <\/span>Wednesday. I really appreciate all of you. I am much younger <\/span>than Tony, not even half way through his journey. Maybe I should <\/span>borrow Tony\u2019s last name? Or maybe not?! ;<\/span>–<\/span>)<\/span><\/p>\n
