When Jesus <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\">teaches the Beatitudes in Matthew<\/span><span dir=\"ltr\">\u2019<\/span><span dir=\"ltr\">s Gospel, He <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\">says, <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\">\u201c<\/span><span dir=\"ltr\">Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\">the kingdom of heaven<\/span><span dir=\"ltr\">\u201d. <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\">Luke takes out the <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\">phrase <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\">\u201c<\/span><span dir=\"ltr\">in spirit<\/span><span dir=\"ltr\">\u201d. <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\">Throughout his Gospel, Luke <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\">calls attention to the materially poor<\/span><span dir=\"ltr\">&#8211;<\/span><span dir=\"ltr\">the ones <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\">without enough food, clothes, or shelter. Jesus <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\">teaches that poor, hungry, sorrowing, and <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\">persecuted people have a place in God<\/span><span dir=\"ltr\">\u2019<\/span><span dir=\"ltr\">s <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\">kingdom. Jesus wants us to have happiness that <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\">lasts. He shared the Beatitudes with His <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\">followers. These attitudes and actions are like a <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\">map that will lead us to true happiness in this life <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\">and help us get to heaven. <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\">\u201c<\/span><span dir=\"ltr\">The Beatitudes <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\">confront us with decisive choices concerning <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\">earthly goods; they purify our hearts in order to <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\">teach us to love God above all things<\/span><span dir=\"ltr\">\u201d <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\">(CCC, <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\">1728).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span dir=\"ltr\">Parents, invite your children to share about <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\">what makes them happy.
