[su_quote]Jesus came forward and addressed the eleven disciples in these words: ‘Full authority has been given to me both in heaven and on earth; go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations. Baptize them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.’ [/su_quote] Mt 28, 18-20
The Sacrament of Baptism is celebrated immediately following the 11am Mass on the 2nd Sunday of each month for registered members of St. Genevieve-St. Maurice Parish family. Please contact the deacon if special arrangements need to be made. Parents, (and Godparents if possible), are to attend one pre-baptismal class, typically held on the 4th Thursday of each month at 6pm in the Activities Center. Please contact the parish office at least one month before the baptism.
Godparents: The Code of Canon Law for the Catholic Church states that there is to be only one male sponsor or one female sponsor or one of each (Canon 873). Godparent/sponsor must be sixteen, a Confirmed Catholic, who has received the Sacrament of the Eucharist, and leads a life of faith. They cannot be the father or mother of the one to be baptized (Canon 874). A baptized person who belongs to a non-Catholic ecclesial community is not to participate except together with a Catholic sponsor and then only as a witness of the baptism (Canon 874).
