The Ascension – Lenten Companion

Lent is an important season in the Church’s liturgical year. This beautiful time of penance and prayer invites us to look at the areas of our lives where we struggle and return our gaze to Jesus Christ and his sacrificial love. Oftentimes we lose sight of the point of this season because we get caught up in ourselves – and about how hard it is to fast, or how bad we are at fasting – and we end up just waiting for the season to be over at Easter. Because of this, we sometimes arrive at Easter no different than we were on Ash Wednesday.

As a parish, we are seeking to prepare for Jesus’ death and Resurrection and experience true transformation in our lives during this powerful season. One way we’re doing this is by participating in a new program from Ascension – The Ascension Lenten Companion: Walking with Jesus to Jerusalem. This is the first of a new series of Lenten Companions from Ascension that follows Jesus on his journey to Jerusalem. The program includes engaging videos by Fr. Toups and an inspirational journal with daily meditations, prayer prompts, space for journaling, and original sacred artwork.

Because we want this Lent to be a journey we take together as a parish, we are holding a Lenten Kick-Off night on February 8 at 7pm in the Activities Center. Each participant will receive The Ascension Lenten Companion journal to use throughout the Lenten season.

To register, please call or email Phyllis Chudzinski at pchudzinski@stgenevieve.org or 734-261-5920. The meeting options are: Wednesday mornings from 10:15-11:15am, February 14-March 24 OR Thursday evenings from 7-8:15pm, February 15-March 21.
