SAVE THE DATE FOR St. Vincent de Paul FRIENDS WALK COMING SOON!
The Society of St. Vincent de Paul founded in 1833 in Paris, France by Frederic Ozanam is a worldwide organization of lay Catholics, following Christ’s call to serve the poor, the suffering and the deprived. The Society of St. Vincent de Paul’s work is unique in that Vincentians offer tangible assistance to those in need on a person-to-person basis. These activities include establishing personal relationships with our neighbors in need, not only providing material assistance such as rent, utilities, food, or clothing, but also offering friendship, understanding, and prayer.
The work of our local church chapter requires having funds available to assist our neighbors in need. One opportunity we have to fundraise is through an annual walk with other members from the Detroit Archdiocese. This year the annual Friends Walk is on Saturday, October 1, 2022, along the beautiful paths of Belle Isle in Detroit. Registration for the 3-mile loop begins at 9:00am and the Walk at 10:00am. This is sure to be a day packed full of food, fun and fundraising! The Detroit Conference is looking to have 1,000 walkers and collectively raise $100,000.00 to support the local missions. The great thing about this walk is all funds collected through our local parish conference stay in our parish to support our mission of helping friends in need. That’s right, 100% of the funds collected stay within our own parish. How wonderful is that?
Enrolling as a walker is easy to do and free. T-Shirts are provided for each registered walker and live music will be played to celebrate before and after the walk. Picnic style lunch of hot dogs, chips and beverages are provided. There are no minimum fundraising requirements but encourage you to share this message with your neighbors and friends as all funds collected will support our parish mission.
For those who can’t participate in the Friends Walk, perhaps you are able to donate to the mission using the link below. The link will take you directly to the St. Genevieve-St. Maurice team page and there you can select donate to the team from the privacy of your own home.
For those who prefer a cash contribution we will have a table in the church vestibule at the weekend masses of September 10-11th and at the parish picnic on the church grounds Sunday, September 11th. A reminder for the Friends Walk and donations will follow the weekend of September 25th. For any questions, please contact the St. Vincent de Paul Friends Walk team captain, Denice Yarber.
