This weekend, our parish is taking up a special collection to support our priests’ retirement. The With Thanks for Their Service in Christ collection will help remedy the estimated $16.6 million shortfall in our Priests’ Retirement Fund, which provides a monthly pension as well as health and automobile insurance to priests over the age of 70.
As you may know, the retirement years can be difficult for our senior priests. No longer supported by their parish communities, they rely on minimal Social Security benefits and their pension from the Priests’ Retirement Fund for basic needs, such as food, housing, and transportation.
Please show your gratitude to those priests who have ministered to our community by prayerfully reflecting on how you can best help support our priests’ retirement with a gift to the With Thanks for Their Service in Christ collection. When you have completed your special collections envelope, either return it during the collection or drop it off at the parish office.
