Hopefully you had a blessed day. Some time ago, I saw a bumper sticker that read, “Stop the world; I want to get off.” Don’t you think that this is so true today!? You might ask what is going on in the world these days? Why is the world running so wildly? The COVID-19 pandemic, wars, violence, hatred, so much suffering around us, etc. But no matter how much you want to get off of this world, evil will be with us till the end time.
In today’s gospel, Jesus says: “He who sows good seed is the Son of Man, the field is the world, the good seed the children of the kingdom. The weeds are the children of the evil one, and the enemy who sows them is the devil.” Has nothing changed in the 2000 years since Jesus’ death?
The parents in Jesus’ day were saying the same thing the parents say to their children today. Right and wrong never change. We may listen to his words and think, “That doesn’t apply to me! That’s old fashioned. I can get all the information I need from the INTERNET, and I can get it right away. No one can make me do something I don’t want to do!” And that’s true. Whether we are a teenager, a young adult, middle-aged, or a senior citizen—we have to make up our own minds. No one can live our lives for us. But for the thousands of years that mankind has been on this earth, nothing has really changed. We all can recognize the “weeds” in our behavior. And, if we are to be truly happy, we have to get rid of them, or our personal “harvest” will not be fruitful.
I’m always surprised when I read the words of Jesus as He teaches everyone what will happen to those of us who don’t keep His commandments. He is a loving God and He is a fair God, but he is also a just God.
[su_quote style=”default” cite=”” url=”” class=””]The Son of God will send His angels and they will collect out of His kingdom all who cause others to sin and all evildoers. They will throw them into a fiery furnace. Then the righteous will shine like the Son in the Kingdom of their Father.
Whoever has ears ought to hear![/su_quote]
May God bless with His Peace.
