Hopefully you had a wonderful week.
Welcome to the 13th Sunday of ordinary time, in the middle of the year. Today’s liturgy of the Word is very beautiful and powerful. The Gospel presents us with two miracles of Jesus. These miracles are evidence of the wish and plan of God for us, his people. They also demonstrate that while Christ desires that we be freed from all forms of captivities, he equally wishes that we demonstrate a strong faith in order to step into our miracles. In both cases, we see faith in action. The woman demonstrated her living faith with her active action. She waited for twelve years, and when her chance came, she took it in faith. She was not afraid or ashamed of the crowd. Her action and the reaction of Jesus, simply teach us that coming and touching Christ must be a very deliberate action motivated by a living faith. Also, Jairus demonstrated his faith on behalf of his daughter by persistently inviting Christ. Both Jairus and the woman never gave up, instead, they waited patiently until the plan of God was fulfilled for them.
Please remember two things from this teaching of Jesus. First, it is the plan of God for us to prosper both in body and soul, but we must be patient and walk into this plan with faith. Second, we have a role to play in the plan of God towards others. This is why Paul tells us today: “You always have the most of everything…so we expect you to put the most into this work of mercy too.” So, while Christ seeks our welfare every day, we too must constantly seek the welfare of others. Let us praise the Lord saying: “I will praise you, Lord, you have rescued me.”
What’s new at the Parish?
We are blessed! We, St. Genevieve – St. Maurice parish, are blessed with a new deacon who was just officially assigned to our faith community. Deacon Lawrence Toth is his name. Together with his wife Stephanie, they became our parishioners a few months ago. Sometime later, we started the process of assignment to our parish and last Wednesday I received an official letter from The Archdiocese that Deacon Lawrence will serve our parish community starting July 1st for a year. I’m very happy and grateful for this. I can’t wait to introduce Deacon Lawrence to all of you from the altar and to serve, minister, and walk through our journey of faith together. Please welcome Deacon Lawrence and his wife Stephanie with open and loving hearts! Welcome on board Deacon Lawrence!
Congratulations. All the best to our Elementary, High School, Collage, and Trade School Graduates. Being grateful for what’s behind you, do not be afraid what’s ahead of you.
CSA – We have been really making progress with our CSA donations. Thanks to your generosity we have been coming closer to our goal. If you did not make your contribution yet, your contribution would be greatly appreciated.
