In the gospel today, Jesus gives us the blessing of serving the poor, hungry, and weeping people, for you will then rejoice and leap for joy. But Jesus also teaches us the decisiveness of choice: blessing or woe. Choosing to help those that are suffering will fill your heart with the blessing of Jesus and indeed your reward will be great in heaven.
With your overwhelming support, the parish has served over 150 families in the past year. An additional 450 bags of groceries were provided to those in need. Some examples of recent assistance include aiding an eighty-one-year-old widow without a working furnace who was heating her home by portable heaters. Three additional families that were facing eviction from their rental properties were provided aid. You have made, and continue to make, a major difference for those in need within our parish boundaries. Thank you all for your kindness, your support and your prayers. And a special thanks to our corporate sponsors: Kroger, Meijer, and Bob’s Discount Furniture. We also, in conjunction with other local SVDPs, have started a program that provides low interest loans for necessary items such as automobiles or appliance repairs.
Do you know someone who is in need of food, assistance with utilities, rent or mortgage? Please contact the parish office at 734.427–5220 and leave a message for SVDP.
May God bless you
