Faith Formation News

Happy New Year Parents!

Did you know that there’s a difference between a believer and a disciple??

Below is a chart showing the differences, as your children need to know. God rejoices when we take him seriously, and YES! CHILDREN CAN BE DISCIPLES AS WELL AS BELIEVERS. Encourage them to know the difference between a DISCIPLE and a BELIEVER starting this New Year. Encourage them as we do to become DISCIPLES in 2024, which means taking your faith seriously. Read this with them and hang it where the whole family can see for a month or two!

BELIEVER

  • Believes Jesus is God’s son
  • Prays for God to grant them blessings in their personal lives
  • Relies on faith to get them what they hope for
  • Focused on salvation being a free gift
  • Focused on eternal life being free
  • Focused on the belief that Jesus paid the price
  • Focused on instant justification by grace

DISCIPLE

  • Wants to dedicate their lives to God and Jesus his son
  • Prays for God to take away their personal lives and give them a life that serves God and others.
  • Relies on faith to reveal what God hopes for
  • Focused on freely giving to share God’s love daily
  • Focused on what works will be helpful to God’s plans
  • Focused on what sacrifices will bring God’s plans into the light
  • Focused on a lifelong journey of growth
  • Focused on an eternal inheritance that will likely be costly
