Hello Parents,
Palm Sunday, also called Passion Sunday, marks the beginning of Holy Week. During this week, we prepare ourselves for Easter by prayerfully reflecting on the events of Jesus’ passion and death. During this week, your family might display a crucifix in a prominent place as reminder of the salvation that Christ won for us. This can also serve as the focal point for family prayer during Holy Week.
Family Prayer: Prayer Before the Crucifix – Listen and reflect on the African Spiritual, Were You There. You should be able to find the song on YouTube or wherever you stream music. When you are done, pray this prayer in front of a crucifix in your home: “Look down upon me, good and gentle Jesus, while before your face I humbly kneel and with burning soul, pray and beseech you, to fix deep in my heart, lively sentiments of faith, hope and charity, True contrition for my sins and a firm purpose of amendment. While I contemplate with great love and tender pity, your five most precious wounds, pondering over them within me, and calling to mind the words that David, your prophet, said of You, my Jesus, “They have pierced My hands and feet, they have numbered all my bones.” Amen.
Liturgy Link – Red is the liturgical color for Palm Sunday. Where do you see red at Mass today?
Family Challenge – Pray the Stations of the Cross as a family or attend the Liturgy of the Lord’s Passion at your parish.
This past Wednesday, March 20th, we had the pleasure to host the celebration of our Family of Parishes Confirmation Mass for our 8th graders. The Mass was celebrated by Bishop Jeffrey Monforton. How beautiful that our students received this sacrament the week before Holy Week. I would like to thank all the parents as the first teachers of their children, the sponsors of each student, Mrs. Karen Bonanno, their catechist, and Fr. Tom in helping to prepare these students for this sacrament. We congratulate the students from our parish: Pierson Boehm; Marisa Davis; Kiralee Deighton; Chloie Jones; Brady Karapuz; Cooper Karapuz; Max Klein; Julia Malinowski; Elizabeth Nichols; Leo Orozco; Issabella Petrovich; Grace Turbiak and Leslie Vann.
