In an effort to fully abide according to the general instructions of the Roman Missal with regards to music during the Easter Triduum, there will be no organ or other instruments playing after the Gloria of the Mass of the Lord’s Supper on Holy Thursday until the Gloria of the Easter Vigil mass. While the instructions do not expressly prohibit instrumentation, musical instruments are discouraged, with the goal of creating a more solemn mood. This solemn mood will draw us more fully into the sorrowful events of Jesus’ passion and death that we commemorate at this time, leading up to His Resurrection. There is no resurrection without the cross, and by excluding the use of all instruments during the most somber time of the Church’s liturgical calendar, we hope to help all of our parish family more fully experience the great love our Lord has for us in the death He underwent but then, likewise, experience more fully the great joy of the Resurrection on Easter.
